NETWORK Rail has promised to tackle issues with black material coming off the new Dawlish sea wall.

The rubberised material has been coming away from the joints in the wall but it has prompted complaints that it is causing possible pollution.

County councillor Rosie Dawson said she was ‘angry’ after trying to alert Network Rail to the problem.

She said: ‘It is black filler type material which is coming away from between the blocks of the wall.

‘With the recent storms, it has been coming off in massive chunks.

‘We have been working hard on litter picks on the beach and now this is going into the sea.

‘It’s been happening for over a year.’

A spokesman for Network Rail explained is it expansion material which needs ‘poking back in’.

He said: ‘We have asked out teams to do so as soon as possible.’
