TEIGNMOUTH based poet Rosie Jackson has achieved honours in The National Poetry Competition.

Set up by the Poetry Society in 1978, it is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious poetry competitions.

This year, more than 17,800 poems were submitted from 103 countries. And commended in the Top Ten is Teignmouth writer Rosie, who moved here last year.

Rosie is on the team of Poetry Teignmouth, who just ran another successful annual festival at the Pavilions.

The timing could not be better, for Rosie’s latest collection of poems Love Leans over the Table has just been published by Two Rivers Press and she will be launching it at the Alice Cross Centre Saturday, 15 April 15, 7.30 pm, joined by other excellent local poets and cellist Eliza Jacobs. All are welcome to this event.

Rosie has published several books and won many prizes in the past, including the Poetry Teignmouth competition in 2021.

She says: ‘I’m so delighted by this award. It’s always so encouraging to be recognized, it helps keep you writing.’

Rosie is also a creative writing tutor and runs memoir classes at the Pavilions. You can find out more at www.rosiejackson.org.uk

Moniza Alvi says of her work: ‘These are rare, nourishing poems, open and vulnerable, spiritually aware and with an acute sense of beauty and struggle.’
