AN ‘ASTOUNDED’ groom-to-be with a terminal condition has said he is ‘blown away’ by the generosity of local people who have moved mountains to give him and his fiancée their dream wedding.

After overcoming cancer following surgery 2019, Marc Vine (34) and fiancée Emily Butcher (26), pledged to get married as soon as possible and started planning for a future date.

However, following an intense bout of back pain around two months ago, Marc was told that he has an extremely rare type of cancer in the form of a Neuroendocrine tumour. His prognosis, sadly, is terminal.

After receiving the diagnosis, the couple decided to scrap their wedding plans due to not having enough money.

Friends of the couple, however, were having none of it and picked up the phone and decided to try and make it happen.

Now, a number of generous businesses in the district have pledged to do whatever it takes to make it happen.

With a ‘massive’ discount the wedding venue, and a small army of traders pledging their services for free, or next to free, and the wedding will now go ahead with the ceremony on July 14 and a reception on August 23.

Everything from photography to a bouncy castle for kids on the day is being provided by local businesses.

‘We wanted to scrap our plans due to our financial position, said Marc. ‘Which was made worse by me being off work and my partner having to reduce her hours to care for me.’

He added: ‘After I beat cancer before, we made the decision to get married. It means so much to us to be able to tie the knot.’

Emily said she was ‘so thankful’ to all her friends and family that have made all this possible.

‘It was always our dream to get married,’ she explained. ‘The prospect of it not happening was heart breaking, but now we are getting the dream wedding we had always wished for.’

Joe Lang, who runs the wedding venue, Humber Barn, has given Marc a ‘ridiculously generous’ discount, according to Marc.

Joe said he felt a prang of emotion upon hearing the story.

‘A close friend of Marc approached me’, said Joe. ‘We knew we had to help. You want the best for people and I find it makes me feel emotional thinking about everyone getting involved.’

Joe elaborated: ‘We’ve been jumping through hoops and keeping an eye on the latest Government restrictions. We’re not a big corporate business. We’re a working far at the end of the day and we want to serve the community.’

After the couple had some difficulties in conceiving, Emily finally fell pregnant with their ‘little rainbow baby’, Theodore Arthur Vine, who is due on July 16.

Marc and fiancée Emily would like to offer the upmost gratitude to the following companies:

Phil Higginson at Refrigeration

Sally and Charlotte at Moss Bros

Alan at Mane events

Ian at H Samuel

Sophie at Humber Barn

Leah Harrison for photography

Sammy Lacey for the cake

Adam Hughes for cars

Josephine Baker for flowers

Emily’s mum Suzanne, for buying her the wedding dress.
