A FIRE near Moretonhampstead has damaged around 100 metres of hedgerow and parts of two fields following a vehicle fire.

Fire Control received multiple calls reporting the vehicle fire yesterday evening (Monday, August 24), with crews from Chagford and Moretonhampstead initially sent to the scene.

On arrival, firefighters found the blaze had spread from the vehicle to two areas of surrounding land.

Two additional fire engines and a water bowser were requested as crews worked to prevent the fire spreading.

A further two fire appliances were later called to provide additional personnel, with specialist officers also attending.

The fire ultimately damaged two sections of field measuring approximately 50 metres by 20 metres and 100 metres of hedgerow.

Firefighters used four hose reel jets, four main jets and eight fire beaters to tackle the blaze, as well as a thermal imaging camera to identify hot spots.

The field, hedgerow and vehicle were all ‘100 per cent damaged by fire’.

The cause of the incident is believed to have been accidental, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have said.
