POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted near a Plymouth nightclub.

At around 5.15am on Sunday, June 1, the man left Switch nightclub on North Hill and entered Addison Road when he was hit from behind.

The victim was knocked to the floor and then struck to the jaw area, knocking him unconscious.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he spent four nights being treated for a serious head injury.

He has since been discharged.
