A WILDLIFE rescue charity is calling on local people to volunteer their time and help care for sick and injured hedgehogs.

ELM Wildlife, based at Seale Hayne, near Newton Abbot, is looking for volunteers to join its team and help with the day-to-day running of its rescue centre.

The charity, which was founded in 2018, has grown to become one of Devon’s largest wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisations, caring for thousands of animals, particularly sick and injured hedgehogs.

Volunteers will help with a range of essential husbandry duties, including cleaning cages, preparing bedding, weighing and feeding animals, and monitoring those in care.

Shifts run from 10am until 2pm, with a break during the morning for drinks and biscuits – and sometimes cake.

ELM is looking for people aged over 18-years-old, physically able and have a kind, and caring approach to animals.

Volunteers must also have their own transport, as there is no public transport to Seale Hayne, and a Facebook profile to access the charity’s volunteer group.

The charity ideally wants volunteers to commit to at least two shifts a month.
