DEVON and Cornwall recorded the eighth highest number of speeding offences in the UK, according to new figures.

A study conducted by a vehicle finance company says the two counties’ force area recorded 77,387 speeding offences in the last year.

Figures were based on data from the Home Office in the 2020 financial year, the most recent available. The study analysed the number of speeding offences in each police force area of the country.

Top was West Yorkshire with 180,432 speed limit offences, next was Greater Manchester with 178,123 and third Lincolnshire with 123,533 offences.

Devon and Cornwall, with a population of 1,785,300 recorded a total of 77,387 speeding offences.
