A GO-KART challenge proved a hit in Bovey Tracey.
Organised by the Riverside Community Centre, the event was finally completed with a ‘thrilling’ run-off and time trial.
It had taken some time to identify a course location, which was eventually found thanks to Oxen Park Farm in the Teign Valley.
And organisers weren’t sure if the go-karts which had been built would still fit the competitors.
A spokesman said: ‘It was a bit of a squeeze.
‘With some build modifications and adjustments, such as long legs bent almost double at the knees, they managed to test out their creations.
‘Thanks to all the parents who gave permission for their lads to hurtle down steep fields at speed, whilst almost but not quite, inside their karts.’
Among those taking part were Seth Hervin, Jo Grimes, Jacob Ayres, Jago and Zack Stone and Nathan Smith.
They were said to have made ‘super efforts and demonstrated great ingenuity and commitment’.
Thanks also went to Justin Fellows and Cat Howard for running the design and build of the karts.
The funds to run the project were awarded by Devon’s Growing Communities scheme.
