FIREFIGHTERS in Newton Abbot were called into action on Saturday (April 25) following reports of a car fire in Milber.

Newton Abbot Fire Station dispatched one appliance just before 5pm.

Upon arrival, the crew were faced with a car that was ‘well alight’ with ‘significant amounts of smoke and flames issuing from the car’.

The fire had begun to spread to building nearby, which prompted another appliance from Torquay to be called in.

Crews used: two breathing apparatus, 51mm attack jet, hydraulic cutters, reciprocating saw, triple extension ladder and small tools throughout the incident.

‘We would also like to thank our 999 control room who passed on vital information from a member of the public about a bank of pressurised cylinders stored within the vicinity of the incident.

‘These additional details allow us to act decisively when we arrive on scene, as well as alert us to dangers that may be present.
