THE latest Covid figures for Teignbridge show a 53.7 per cent increase compared to the previous seven days.

There were 196 new people who had a confirmed positive test result reported on January 2, according to the latest Government figures.

Between December 27 and January 2, 1,317 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows an increase of 53.7% compared to the previous seven days.

Some people with coronavirus have to go into hospital.

One person with coronavirus went into hospital on December 26.

Between December 20 and 26, 11 went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows a decrease of -38.9% compared to the previous seven days.

There were 17 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 28 December 2021.

Some people in the hospital need to use a special device called a mechanical ventilator to help them breathe.

There was one coronavirus patient in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on December 28.

Fortunately no deaths were reported within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported on January 2.
