A KNIFE amnesty has been launched by police in Newton Abbot.

Operation Septre #OpSceptre is running all week.

On their Facebook page the town’s police say: ‘Outside of Newton Abbot Police Station we have a knife amnesty bin.

‘If you've got a knife or other bladed item that could be used as a weapon, you can surrender it safely and without any repercussions during our knife amnesty.

‘We are always committed to doing everything we can to tackle serious violence by working closely with our partner agencies and other organisations to ensure that Newton Abbot is safe, and feels safe.

‘Our officers will be undertaking a range of activities this week including targeted policing, engagement and education with local businesses and to reassure young people they are safer not carrying knives.’
