THE number of burglaries reported at churches has been revealed by a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
The FOI request, made to Devon Cornwall Police, show that, since 2018, there were 135 records of burglary from churches, as well as 188 other theft offences.
There were also 255 instances of criminal damage.
In total, there were 828 crimes recorded at having taken place at churches.
A stained-glass window was smashed by burglars and several televisions were stolen from 900-year-old St Andrew's Church in Ashburton in 2024.
And, again in 2024, items were stolen in a burglary at St Martin and St Mary Parish Church in Chudleigh.
On average, more than ten crimes took place at churches and places of worship every single day in 2025, an investigation by the Countryside Alliance found.
