THE director of a Teignbridge-based floral academy is to compete in an upcoming competition at Moreton Morrell College.

Tina Parkes, director of the British Academy of Floral Art, near Dunchideock, will travel to Warwickshire college on Thursday, June 19 as part of the highly anticipated ‘A Midsummer's Evening’ showcase event.

This year’s theme, ‘German Culture in Bloom’, pays homage to floral innovator Nicolaus Peters and invites participants to explore the elegance of historic floral styles.

Tina will be creating a bouquet inspired by the Biedermeier style, a structured and refined aesthetic that emerged in Germany and Austria between 1815 and 1848.

Known for its symmetrical, concentric designs and delicate colour harmony, the Biedermeier bouquet demands exceptional technical skill, creativity, and a deep understanding of traditional floristry principles — all of which Tina is known for both in her work and teaching.

The competition will be judged by the UK Floristry Judges Guild, with awards given for each category, including a newly introduced ‘Alison Bradley Prize for Overall Excellence’, celebrating outstanding workmanship and innovation across the board.

Tina said: ‘It is a real honour to take part in a competition that brings both heritage and design excellence to the forefront.

‘The Biedermeier style is a timeless classic, and I’m excited to interpret it with fresh energy while staying true to its roots’.

The event promises to be an inspiring evening for florists, flower lovers, and anyone with an appreciation for cultural artistry in bloom.
