NEWTON Abbot Fire Station recently conducted a daring rescue drill at a local swimming pool...
Thankfully, the trip to Kingsteignton Swimming Pool was all a part of the crew’s training.
This week the crew showcased their skills in fast-flowing water scenarios.
The station’s Crew Manager had become ‘trapped’ in a car that had become submerged.
And so, the crew set about rescuing him.
Two firefighters in flood suits, tethered with throw lines and managed from the side by other crew members, took wading poles to check for obstructions below the water line.
A spokesperson for Newton Abbot Fire Station said: ‘Once the firefighters waded out to the casualty, they gave him a life jacket and positioned him between themselves.
‘This way, the firefighters could take the force of the flow from the water and ensure the casualty's safety throughout the rescue.
‘We would like to extend our gratitude to Kingsteignton swimming pool and say a massive thank you for allowing us to train within your pool.
‘Our Crew Manager was also very appreciative for the hot chocolate provided following his "rescue"’.
