MOTORISTS are being urged to take extra care when driving near an accident hotspot on Dartmoor after a car plummeted off a cliff last week.

Speaking to the BBC, Ashburton Fire Station’s crew manager Chris Stanton said drivers should take the ‘very sharp corner gently’ at Spitchwick.

Firefighter Stanton made the comment after a car carrying three passengers plummeted more than 50ft after having left the road near Poundsgate on Friday.

The car came to a rest close to the waters edge of the River Dart.

Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicle only suffered minor injuries.

Crew from Ashburton, Bovey Tracey and Buckfastleigh attended the incident.

Buckfastleigh Fire Station described it as a ‘tricky extrication’.

The crew had ‘expected the worst’, but were ‘amazed and incredibly relieved’ that nobody was seriously hurt.
