EMERGENCY services have honed their triage and extrication abilities during a rigorous multi-vehicle crash drill at Gilpins.
Firefighters from Bovey Tracey and Buckfastleigh, as well as representatives from the ambulance service and the Hazardous Area Response Team, gathered at the scrap-metal yard for the exercise.
The scenario, which involved a high-speed crash with several casualties - injuries ranging from slight cuts to major trauma - allowed attendees to practise triage protocols.
A spokesperson for Buckfastleigh Fire Station: ‘Due to the unusual position of the vehicles, stability was particularly challenging and crews enjoyed the opportunity to practice their extrication skills in a difficult rescue scenario.
‘Thank you to Gilpins for making this event a possibility, training like this is so crucial to what we do and Gilpins have been facilitating these type of events for a long time now’.
