IT’S back to school again, literally, for the new head at Coombeshead Sixth Form College.

As well as having taught at Coombeshead College for 20 years, Mr Thomas is also a former student.

Under his leadership he hopes to take the sixth form to new heights and is keen for the community to learn more about the college’s strong academic offer and broad arts curriculum at its upcoming open evening on the October 7 at 6pm.

He said: ‘I am incredibly proud to be taking on the role of Head of Sixth Form at a college that has played such an important part in my own life.

‘Having been a student here myself and then returning as a member of staff, I have seen first-hand what makes Coombeshead such a special community.

‘Our aim is for every student to believe in what they can achieve, to belong to a supportive and welcoming community, and to become the very best version of themselves.

‘I am excited about the year ahead and about building on everything that Coombeshead already does so well.’

The sixth form has a strong track record of helping young people achieve their ambitions, with students progressing to leading universities, employment and further training across a wide range of fields.

Matthew Shanks, CEO of Education South West said: ‘James brings a wealth of experience, a real passion for Coombeshead and, importantly, a genuine understanding of what it means to be part of this community.

‘His journey from student to teacher and now Head of Sixth Form is a wonderful reflection of the strong relationships that exist across the college.’
