WHILE some people see Teignmouth solely as a place of beauty with its seaside and estuary location, Teignmouth is fast becoming the ‘St Ives’ of the South Devon art scene with a vibrant and thriving local art community.

This year’s upcoming Teignmouth Art Society’s (TAS) Summer Exhibition (19th August till the 1st September) is being held at the wonderfully refurbished Teignmouth Arts Action Group (TAAG) venue in Northumberland Place, Teignmouth.

With both TAS and TAAG joining forces, this year’s Summer Exhibition promises to be an event not to be missed.

Founded in 1948, TAS now has over 170 members, and through supporting and representing local artists through its various workshops and exhibitions, the Society plays a crucial role within the Teignmouth creative hub.

Located in Northumberland Place, the TAAG Gallery venue for the upcoming TAS Summer Exhibition is in the centre of town, surrounded by cafes, a wide variety of shops, and is near the beach.

This means you can visit the Exhibition while also making a day of all that Teignmouth has to offer.

Visitors play an active role in the exhibition by contributing to the ‘People’s Choice Margaret Allenby Award’.

Other judged award categories include best landscape, marine painting, abstract, innovation in painting, sculpture, and best overall entry.

So come along, meet the artists, view their fabulous art work, and continue the tradition of voting for your favourite exhibit.

The TAS Exhibition runs from August 19 to September 10.
