YOUNG adults across Devon are being encouraged to try volunteering through a new flexible scheme designed to fit around modern life.

Devon Air Ambulance has launched its ‘You can. It counts.’ campaign, offering people aged 18 to 30-years-old the chance to get involved without committing to regular weekly shifts or long-term volunteering roles.

The new Base Crew Flex programme provides pop-up volunteering opportunities across Devon, allowing participants to choose when and how often they get involved.

Opportunities could include supporting charity events, helping in local communities, raising awareness or assisting with fundraising activities.

The charity says the scheme is aimed at young people looking to gain new skills and experience, meet people, build confidence or strengthen their CVs while making a difference in their local communities.

Vicky Thresher, Volunteer Manager at Devon Air Ambulance, said many young people face challenges when it comes to employment, gaining experience and finding opportunities to develop new skills.

‘Through our ‘You can. It counts.’ campaign, we want to show that volunteering can be a positive step forward’, she said.

She added that Base Crew Flex gives volunteers the freedom to take part in a way that works around their lives.

‘Whether someone wants to build confidence, strengthen their CV, meet new people, develop skills or simply try something new, our Base Crew Flex gives them the freedom to volunteer in a way that works for them’, Ms Thresher said.

Volunteers play a key role in supporting Devon Air Ambulance, helping with charity shops, fundraising events and community activities.

The charity says every hour volunteered contributes to its work supporting critical care crews and keeping its helicopters flying.
