A PROPOSED development for more than a dozen homes at Ashburton will provide ‘much needed’ social housing, the town council has said.

Submitted by Live West Homes, the application - reference 0104/26 - is seeking permission for a development of 16 homes at land west of Roborough Lane.

The proposal includes a mix of one, two and three bedroom dwellings, including flats and houses.

It also includes provision for road infrastructure and landscaping.

According to the planning statement for 0104/26, the proposal is for 100 per cent affordable dwellings.

The housing will comprise a minimum of 12 for social rent, with the remaining four to be delivered as either shared ownership or social rent, as to be agreed by Dartmoor National Park Authority.

And having met with a representative from Live West, Cllr Turner and Cllr Coles from Ashburton Town Council determined that: ‘the development will provide much needed social housing for Ashburton.

‘The site utilises the remainder of the allocated site and is in keeping with the original development’.

It was, therefore, proposed that the town council support the application.

Vehicular and pedestrian access is proposed to be taken from the existing residential development to the north of the application site; pedestrian connections will also be made to these roads, as well as Roborough Lane to the east.

The design and access statement goes on to say: ‘Overall, it is believed that the proposed design solution delivers a high quality residential extension to the historic town of Ashburton.

‘The carefully designed landscape lead site layout works with its contextual setting, and delivers an aesthetically pleasing addition to Roborough Lane using locally reflective materials.

‘It is believed that these new homes compliments the edge of settlement location setting, whilst providing 21st century homes with character and charm’.
