MYSTERY surrounds the appearance of a seemingly random ‘Residents Only’ parking sign installed on a wall in Dawlish.

The sign has been erected on a wall in Exeter Road claiming the area is for residents only.

But county councillor for Dawlish Rosie Dawson has confirmed there are no such parking restrictions on public roads in Dawlish.

She said: ‘We don't have any such parking restrictions on public roads in Dawlish that I’m aware of and changes like this would have gone through the Highways and Traffic Order Committee for the Teignbridge area and been advertised for objections/approvals to be registered prior to this.’

It was spotted by a member of the public who said: ‘Parking is already difficult for residents of Exeter Road and I cannot understand why people haven’t been consulted about a change in the parking rules?

‘Should we be expecting a ticket for parking somewhere that has always been free?’

The sign itself has come under scrutiny with observers noting it is missing particular details such as the authority responsible and operating times.
