TONIGHT’S the night for the 50th anniversary pram race in Dawlish.
The iconic race will see entrants tackle a 17 stop route around the town on their specially built wheeled contraptions.
Judging will begin at 6pm on the Lawn before the race itself kicks off at 6.45pm.
The pram race will be one of a number of highlights in this year’s carnival which got off to a cracking start on Saturday.
There has been a host of entertainment over the last few days from the Dawlish Rockwaves Choir and the combined Rock Choir of Torquay, Plymouth, Newton Abbot and Teignmouth and Maddy and the Chaps.
The carnival was officially opened by Mayor of Dawlish Rosie Dawson on Sunday.
Sunday night’s quiz, run by Dawlish quiz supremo Jimmy Hill, attracted a massive 43 teams with organisers bringing in ‘emergency’ chairs.
The amount of money raised for the event was £822.
Thought to be one of the oldest events of its kind in the country, the Pram Race theme is musicals.
The first pram starting this year’s anniversary event will be by the Farley family in recognition of their long involved with Dawlish carnival and a reputation for ‘fantastically built’ prams.
During the day today, there will be clay modelling, junior tennis, a performance by Footlights Dance Academy and a children’s fun run.
Historian David Force will be giving one of his local history talks in the marquee from 3pm.
