A 47-YEAR-OLD man killed himself on a railway line near Starcross two days after he had been arrested at a music festival, an inquest heard.
David Orrell had been arrested at the Shambala music festival in Northamptonshire in August 2023 and released on bail after he denied the offences.
But the Exeter-born computer software engineer travelled to the railway line at Powderham near Starcross after his release and deliberately stood in front of a 75mph train.
A suicide note was found in a rucksack at the scene.
An investigation by Northamptonshire police said there was no misconduct by any officer or staff member in relation to his arrest, detention and release.
The police watchdog was informed but no action was taken by them.
The inquest heard that safeguarding was put in place and there was no risk of self harm.
Mr Orrell, a single man who lived in Hampton View, Bath, said in his note that he did suffer mental torment by self imposed isolation and asked for some money to be given to mental health services.
An inquest at Exeter's coroners court heard the train driver describe how Mr Orrell strode out in front of his train, faced him and squat down covering his eyes in the seconds before he was struck.
He died from multiple injuries.
The senior Devon coroner Philip Spinney recorded a conclusion of suicide and said Mr Orrell had deliberately stood in the path of the oncoming train.
