Teignmouth Carnival Week is underway, with a packed programme of events including the big procession on Thursday evening (July 30).

Eight days of summer fun and entertainment began at The Den on Saturday with a community art project – a chance for anyone to make festive decorations for the marquee or flags for the procession. These sessions are continuing throughout the week in the carnival marquee. Later there was an inflatable assault course, cream teas, sea shanty bands, a disco and a live Elton John tribute act.

Monday saw the arrival of the funfair on The Den – it’ll stay until August 9th.

Wednesday was Summer Fete Day, with the traders and entertainers at The Den joined by stalls from local community groups and businesses. Fun competitions included a carnival Bake Off, a garden produce contest, an art challenge and children’s fancy dress.

The carnival procession will assemble at the seafront from 4pm on Thursday. The parade will start moving at 7pm, making its way around the town centre and back to the seafront during the evening.

Parking restrictions will be in force from 4pm throughout the route, and roads into the town centre will be closed from 6pm. The restrictions will be in place until the procession is over at 9pm.

The parade will be followed by live music at The Den and a spectacular laser show at 10pm – a new feature for this year’s carnival.

Friday will see a dog show, children’s sports and a tug of war for adults, before the evening entertainment which features the Oasis tribute band Be Here Now.

Saturday is the ‘big music day’ with a variety of entertainment on the outdoor stage, starting with the young Teign Stage Stars and finishing with the 80s party band The Riviera Dogs, bringing Carnival Week to a close.
