ENTHUSIASTIC youngsters from Bishopsteignton School helped the environment by taking part in a beach clean.

The children collected five bags of rubbish from the Point and the Back Beach in Teignmouth.

Deputy Headteacher Emma Leballeur said: ‘Following their learning about plastic pollution in school, it was great to see so many children eager to make a difference by joining in with the beach clean. We were all surprised with how much was found when at first glance the beach looked quite clean. We hope others will be encouraged to think carefully about how they dispose of rubbish.’

Cllr David Cox, who helped in the clean up, thanked all the children and said: ‘It was encouraging to see less rubbish on the beaches and particularly the small bits of plastic which do so much harm.

The children were rewarded for their hard work by Cllr Robert Phipps who gave them an ice cream.
