TWO people have been arrested following a stand-off in Kingsteignton today.

Newton Road was closed off for several hours while police negotiated with a man who was on a roof.

The incident started this morning when police attended an address in Newton Road to execute a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

But while they were at the property, the man had fled up on to the roof.

Police said the was damaged roof and tiles were thrown from the roof, damaging a police car below.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: ‘Following a prolonged period of negotiation the man in his 30s came down and was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

‘A woman in her 30s at the property was arrested on suspicion of obstructing/resisting a constable in execution of duty and being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs.’

The man and woman remained in custody.

The incident involved numerous officers and police vehicles, including a dog unit.

Newton Road was closed between two roundabouts for several hours.
