TWO tractors and a barn caught fire in Moretonhampstead yesterday evening (Friday).

Fire control received multiple calls to report a tractor on fire at just after 6pm and sent two pumps alongside a water carrier.

On arrival the incident commander immediately called for a further two pumping appliances as the fire had spread to a second tractor, as well as a barn full of hay.

Fire teams attended from Bovey Tracey, Moretonhampstead, North Tawton, Okehampton and Torquay.

A Fire Control spokesperson said: ‘Crews on scene got to work to fight the fire using hose reel jets, breathing apparatus and a main jet.

‘Crews made good progress to extinguish the fire and around two hours later confirmed the fire to be out.

‘Both the farm vehicles suffered 100 percent damage caused by fire, the barn suffered 10 percent damage by fire and 60 percent damage from smoke.’

‘The fire was believed to be caused accidentally.’
