A SWIMMER was taken to hospital after being pulled from the water off Dawlish. 

The casualty needed emergency first aid after being airlifted from the sea. 

Emergency services were alerted to reports of a swimmer in difficulties east of Langstone Rock 

Exmouth RNLI, coastguard rescue teams and the coastguard helicopter were all scrambled to the scene where the swimmer had been found by the crew of a boat. 

Emergency first aid was administered to the casualty on the lifeboat. 

A coastguard spokesperson said: ‘HM Coastguard paged the volunteer crew of Exmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat and requested they attend a report of a swimmer in difficulty in the sea about 500 metres east of Langstone Rock, Dawlish. 

‘Local coastguard rescue teams and a coastguard rescue helicopter were also tasked to attend the incident.’

The swimmer was winched by the helicopter and flown direct to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. 

The incident happened on Friday evening.

The swimmer’s condition was not known.
