A SPEED Watch team clocked 58 drivers breaking the 30mph speed limit in Newton Abbot in one afternoon session on sunday.
The team also clocked one person going at more than 50mph in the St Marychurch Road/ Aller Junction area during their stint between 2pm and 4pm.
Their findings are recorded below.
Speed Watch co-ordinator Cllr Mike Joyce, the Newton Abbot Police Advocate and a town councillor, said there was no excuse for people speeding in Newton Abbot’s busy streets.
‘We are doing all we can to make the roads safer and are working with the police on this.
‘We need more volunteers to help us encourage drivers to respect our town and the safety of its people by keeping to the speed limits.’
Newton Abbot Police say: ‘We regularly conduct speed enforcement operations across Newton Abbot & Kingsteignton and continue to support our volunteers from the Community Speedwatch (CSW) scheme to monitor this.’
