A 26 METRE bridge has been successfully lifted into position as part of a multi-million road project in Dawlish.

Specialist contractors were brought in for the operation which required a 500 ton crane to lift the bridge.

The scheme is to link the A379 at Shutterton with Secmaton Farm as part of ongoing house building in this part of Dawlish.

Once completed, the road will open up more land for housing and it is hoped to ease traffic congestion.

Contractors for the scheme Montel Civil Engineering invited representatives from organisations involved to watch the lifting operation.

A spokesman for the company said: ‘It was a big day for our Dawlish scheme this week being undertaken for Devon County Council

‘The Montel team and our specialist contractors J & D Pierce Contracts begun lifting the bridge into place, and all involved in this exciting scheme came along to watch this milestone event.’
